Pittsburgh Piano Trio presents
Fourteenth Annual Chamber Music Academy

August 4 - 8, 2008

Artist Faculty : Jennifer Orchard (violin), Mikhail Istomin (cello), Igor Kraevsky (piano)

Guest Artist Faculty : Ilmar Gavilan (violin), Danielle Farina (viola).

In its 14th year, the Pittsburgh Piano Trio Summer Chamber Music Academy at Duquesne will provide young and adult musicians a week of concentrated ensemble playing and outstanding coaching from members of the Trio and guest faculty. While our participants come from all walks of life and many locales, they all have in common a deep love of chamber music. Many return year after year to refine their skills, learn new repertoire, collaborate with others, greet old friends and make new ones.

We limit the size of the program to ensure personal attention. Players with moderate to excellent abilities are welcome, and either individuals or pre-formed groups may apply. Acceptance is based on instrumentation needs, musicianship and playing skill. While our program is primarily for string and piano players, we can occasionally accept a very good wind player.

Every participant is assigned to three ensembles for the week.
Repertory assignments are made three weeks prior to the start of the Academy in order to give players time to prepare. In addition to coaching sessions there will be time for practice, special sessions offered by the faculty such an open rehearsal, master-classes, video lectures, and relaxed socializing.

We make every effort to match players of similar ability and to assign appropriate repertoire based on the information from open auditions and self-evaluation forms. The repertoire ranges from the classical through the romantic and contemporary, accommodating special requests whenever possible.

The Academy opens with a concert by artist and guest faculty. This will take place on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 7:00pm in PNC Recital Hall. The week ends with a student recital on Friday, August 8 at 5:30pm.
